Role IQ
The problem we were trying to solve.
CTOs and managers didn’t have a way to improve skills in their technology departments to ensure team members had the ability to learn new technologies and level up in their current role.
Project goals
Create roles that reflect the current state of the company
Use the measurements as a benchmarking tool across the company.
Compare departments, geographies, etc.
Used as criteria for promotion and development programs.
My role
I lead the design and user research for the redesign of the product. My team was made up of 2 product managers, one other product designer and 8 software engineers. I also cross collaborated with other teams to gather user research and built the Figma prototype for the application to test with our users.
My process
Research & Define
Before I started the design I spoke with the stake holders to gather research and to understand their pain points and what problem we were trying to solve for them
From there I created personals from the leader perspective and from the learner (employee) perspective to make sure we were capturing both types of users.
Ideate
Once the first round of research was gathered I created user flows to understand the journeys for each of our users. I also started out mocking out some brief designs to get an idea of layout.
Design
After I got an idea of layout and journeys for the users I started on the high fidelity designs for the leader experience first.
Test
Once we had the first initial designs established, I created a prototype to test out the role creation process for our leader users. We sent this out to a panel made up of our users through User Testing to test it with our clients.
Reflection
We discovered during our users testing that users were delighted about the new redesign of Role IQ.
We are still deep in the design process for this product so this is coming soon. Once we have feedback from the users on the prototype I will take that back and iterate on the design and do further testing with our users.
